Preventive Hygiene

At the Orangeville Dental Centre, our dentist and hygienists offer x-rays, exams, teeth cleaning, and other preventive hygiene services to keep your oral health on the right track.

Professional Dental Cleanings

An appointment with your dental hygienists is an important step in your overall oral health. It includes:

  • Removal of plaque Plaque is a sticky, almost invisible film that forms on the teeth. It is a collection of bacteria, food debris and saliva. The bacteria can produce toxins that inflame the gums. This inflammation is the start of periodontal disease.
  • Removal of tartar Tartar is hardened plaque that has been left on the tooth for some time and is attached to the tooth surface. Tartar forms above and below the gum line and can only be removed with special dental instruments.
  • Teeth polishing The final step to remove any remaining staining or plaque.

  • Oral cancer screening Examination of the face, neck, lips, tongue, throat, tissues, and gums for any signs of oral cancer.
  • Gum disease evaluation Examination of the gums for any signs of periodontal disease.
