     Bonding

Bonding is an easy way to make minor repairs to chipped or fractured teeth. Composite resin can be used for:

  • repairing  broken tooth and shaped to look like the missing part
  • over a stained tooth to allow a better colour match with the other teeth
  • filling in gaps between teeth by building them up

The dentist places an mild chemical etchant material on the tooth to make it rough.  This etchant allows the composite material to stick better on the enamel of the tooth.  The shade is chosen to match the adjacent teeth.  The material is placed in layers and a curing light is used to harden each layer as it is placed on the tooth.  After the last layer is placed and hardened, it is shaped and polished to look and feel like a natural tooth.
